The MU Bialystok has been established in 1950, after the first groundwork for this was laid in 1949. The founding father of the university is Dr. Jerzy Sztachelski, Prof. Tadeusz Kielanowski became the first rector. The headquarters of the university are located in the impressive baroque Branicki Palace ever since, which has been built by the Branicki family.

The first clinical departments were opened in 1953. The “State Teaching Hospital“, of the MU Bialystok, has been opened in 1962. The first class of the English program began to study in October 2004.

The university has 20 cooperation agreements with foreign universities, in the field of science, that encourage the cooperation and the scientific exchange among one another, with universities in e.g. Germany, USA and Japan. Beyond that, the university participates in the Erasmus Program.

Especially the university hospitals and clinics offer an excellent training in all disciplines of medicine. The clinics offer medical care for Białystok and the entire region Podlaskie. Particularly the university hospital for children provides ultramodern equipment as the basis for a profound medical and up-to-date education. Approximately 10.000 children are treated here every year.
